For the past month I have been doing at home training via zoom with Broghan. It has been a wonderful experience physically and mentally. As a long term gym goer the idea of not having access to equipment to work out made me wonder what I would do to maintain some semblance of fitness during social isolation. Broghan immediately pivoted to at home training for me and I am loving it. I've been able to focus on movement patterns, muscular endurance and targeted muscle development in a way that I wasn't able to when lifting "heavy" at the gym. I have a small assortment of equipment at home but everything we do is easily modifiable to use no equipment if needed. She has graciously allowed my wife to join in on our home training sessions and has provided different movements as needed to address our different needs. On the mental side of things, in a time when life is so different than normal, building routine has been hugely beneficial. Training remotely has helped keep me motivated and consistent at a time when it would be east to say "I'll do it later" and then find the entire day gone. My mood, energy and outlook have remained positive and I can definitely contribute this in part to the scheduled physical activity. Together, we have been able to stay consistent with regular movement, make progress on body weight activities like pulls up and push ups, work on increasing muscular endurance and bring some extra happiness and connection into our days. If anyone is struggling with social distancing and working from home I would highly recommend virtual training. Physically it has been far more challenging and beneficial than I ever anticipated and I cannot speak enough to the mental and emotional benefits I have received. Staying active, focused and connected to others is key in these times!
For years I believed that I could self-direct my own personal fitness routines. But after 5+ years of effort at the ubiquitous discount gym, I found myself bulky in all the wrong places, plagued by negative medical biomarkers for weight and cholesterol, and limited by pain in my lower back, hip and knee. Then I found Fisique and TJ Patrikas. TJ’s academic training in Kinesiology, and his ruthless dedication to form and customized fitness routines, has made a world of difference in my fitness and overall health. My recent medical physical revealed significant improvements in Blood Pressure, BMI and cholesterol levels, and the pain in my lower back, hip and knee has vanished. I’ve worked with TJ 2-3 times per week for approximately one year. During that period, TJ has never missed an appointment, been late, or been less than 100% prepared for a fully customized approach to the issues I’m dealing with. Each workout is unique and regardless of what is occurring in the gym, you have 100% of TJ’s attention for the full period of your workout. While I am at the upper end of the age range for TJ’s clients, the need to improve mobility, strength and fitness only increases with time. TJ Patrikas (and Fisique Boston) are the perfect partners to achieve that goal.
I’ve been a Fisique member for several years. When the club revamped its layout (gone were the outdated weight machines, replaced by functional training elements such as squat racks, TRX training, kettle bells etc.) I was intrigued.
In addition to the change in equipment, the club introduced several very experienced personal trainers. With their low-key approach, I agreed to an introductory session.
I’m now a full year into training several times a week with TJ. He’s focused, organized and fully engaged with his clients. The physical changes I have witnessed are exciting but didn’t register until I had an annual physical where I was told that my body fat had dropped by 4 percentage points and all other markers were measurably better. TJ is as good as they come and I would recommend him unequivocally.
